0: Upon your arrival from the Kilimanjaro International Airport / Arusha Domestic Airport, you will be met by our airport representative and transferred to Arusha hotel for pre-briefing and overnight stay before embark on your timeless adventure.
DAY BY DAY DETAILED ITINERARY
Day 1: Arusha (1400m) /Arusha National Park (1500m)
Driving distance 30km 45minutes
Duration 5-7hrs of hiking
First day of your lifetime adventure commerce in the morning after an early breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and drive to Momela gate in Arusha national park, after papers work and organizing the belongings, the trek will start past the Ngarenanyuki River and an open plain, famous as a home to Buffalo, warthog, giraffe, baboons and some bird species.
As your walking boots striking towards the foot of the Mt. Meru, your eyes will be catch up by a glorious water-fall, by then the trail will take you through the less dense forest of which make addition of the rare red duiker antelope, bushbuck, blue monkeys, black and white Colobus monkey and abundance bird life.
In the afternoon you will be stopping for a picnic lunch, thereafter the hike will be standing on higher altitude, where will never fail trapping your attention from the supreme views of the towering cliff and ashy cone, before entering the Miriakamba Hut (2514m) overlooking the inspiring plains (1300m) and the pick of the Mt.Kilimanjaro (5695m).
Overnight stay at Miriakamba Hut
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut 2514m – Saddle Hut 3570m
Duration 3-5hrs of hiking
You will setoff after breakfast towards the steep ridge bellow the little Meru, the trail will take you through an outstanding open and lush montane forest to reach the halfway point of elephant ridge, where offer clear views of the summit ridge and beyond the crater floor. Doesn’t matter how high the elevation is, still you might have superb chances for spotting elephant and other animals, the trek will be stretching uphill, through the giant heather and other moorland vegetation to arrive at the Saddle for hot lunch, the rest of the afternoon is free for siesta, the more energetic can make the short trek to the little Meru for acclimatize and inspiring view before sunset, by then return to camp for early dinner, we recommend our guests to take an early sleep so you can receive ample rest before your midnight summit attempt.
Dinner and overstay at Saddle Hut
Day 3: Saddle Hut 3570m - Summit attempt 4566m - Miriakamba Hut, 2514m
Duration 10hrs of hiking
An early start around 1:00am after a cup of coffee, you will attack the summit from the steep grade to Rhino Point 3800m, and then continue along an undulating ridge of ash and rock to reach Cobra Point 4350m, the last hours of the hike will take your walking boots pounds on the rocky ridge between the crater and inner cliffs of the Meru, sunrise will be catching you up at the summit 4566m, a home to marvelous views of the rim of the crater, ash tray, the plains far below and the Kilimanjaro floating on the morning clouds if the weather is clear, thereafter descend to Saddle for a branch meal, before heading to Miriakamba Hut to arrive for overstay.
NB: The ridge between the summit and Rhino point is amazing, but we don’t recommend those suffering from dizzy spells (vertigo) to either climb or take this route.
